PRICELESS
Ongoing damage to the earth’s delicate ecosystems is causing us to lose things that can never be replaced. Frogs around the world are disappearing due to the fact that their thin skin so easily absorbs toxins in their immediate environment. Coral reefs are dying, rainforests are burning, wetlands that once protected inland areas are disappearing, and even the Arctic is threatened by the relentless wheels of “progress”.
WHERE WE ARE
Since the vast majority of human beings now live in urban areas, it is very easy to sit back and not notice things are getting worse, or pretend not to notice. However, as the years go by, we will periodically experience human suffering on a scale that will turn opinion around. Hurricane Katrina is a recent example.
WHERE WE ARE GOING
There is a growing realization that what is good for biodiversity is good for humanity. A number of “hotspots” have been identified by groups like Conservation International, and the public and private sectors are coming together to protect the earth’s plants and animals before they are permanently lost.
